Marine Engine Performance Calculator

Fuel, SFOC, thermal conditions and operating indicators

Engineering note: use consistent units and measured data. Manufacturer limits and correction curves are engine-specific. Results are estimates and do not replace the approved engine manual.

1. Engine & fuel data

2. Temperature & pressure

3. Correction & comparison

The optional correction uses a project-guide-specific equation. Do not use it for another engine unless its maker confirms applicability.

Calculated results

Fuel consumption—kg/h
Daily fuel estimate—tonnes/day
SFOC actual—g/kWh
Engine load—% MCR
Fuel per nautical mile—kg/NM
Estimated CO₂—tonnes/day
Ambient correction factor—factor
Thermal efficiency estimate—% (brake output / fuel LCV)
Cooling-water heat transfer—kW
CAC effectiveness—%
EGT deviation—°C from baseline
Specific lube oil use—g/kWh

Performance flags

  • Enter data and calculate to view indicators.

Diagnostic flags are screening indicators only. Alarm limits must be configured from the specific engine maker's manual and shipboard procedures.

Formula reference

  • Fuel mass from volume: mass (kg) = volume (L) × density (kg/m³) ÷ 1000.
  • FOC rate: consumed fuel mass (kg) ÷ measurement period (h).
  • SFOC: fuel rate (kg/h) × 1000 ÷ engine output (kW).
  • Engine load: engine output ÷ rated power × 100%.
  • Cooling-water heat: mass flow (kg/s) × cp (kJ/kg·K) × temperature rise (K).
  • CAC effectiveness: (T air-in − T air-out) ÷ (T air-in − T cooling-water-in) × 100%.
  • Specific lube oil use: lube oil rate (kg/h) × 1000 ÷ output (kW).
